$1206.80 raised for National Breast Cancer Foundation

For a week in October, Canterbury and its staff were awash in all things pink to fundraise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) and their fight against breast cancer.

During the Club’s October Breast Cancer Awareness Week, Bakehouse Café’s front dessert display cabinet was jam-packed with delicious pink sweets and treats such as pink cupcakes, pink mousses and pink cakes. For every purchase of a pink dessert during the week, Canterbury donated $1 to NBCF.

Canterbury takes out the top spot

Canterbury League Club was announced as the winner of a ClubsNSW Clubs & Community Award at the recent awards night on 15 October 2017 in recognition of the Club’s work to feed the homeless in the city with local Punchbowl group, Maronites on Mission.

Since the last magazine, work has really ramped up and there has been a lot of progress on all construction areas at the Western wing of the Club. 

New bathrooms on the first floor were unveiled several weeks ago – there are now even more toilets in the male and female section, sleek golden doors which open to the disabled toilet cubicle and grand floor-to-ceiling water features near the wash basins.

Cyril Henry Murray, or more fondly known as Harry, aged 88, passed away on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

Born on 29 November 1928, Harry was a Canterbury League Club Member since January 1964, joining not long after the start of another adventurous expansion program of the original ‘Paragon No.1’ building back when the club was known as Canterbury-Bankstown Leagues Club.

Starlight magic coming to 14,615 kids after fundraising telethon

Canterbury League Club has always been part of the magic of ‘Big Change for Little Champions’ telethon to raise money for Starlight Children’s Foundation and this year was no different.

Canterbury Director Steve Mortimer OAM was on-hand during the live taping of The Footy Show to present a cheque to Starlight for $25,000 and to mingle with all the fantastic Captain Starlights and volunteers who made the night possible.

Try Canterbury’s newest family-friendly Italian restaurant

With a variety of wood-fired pizzas, pastas, meat dishes and salads on the menu, diners wanting to experience great Italian food will surely find it at Lavico Italian Ristorante.

Lavico, which means lava in Italian, is Canterbury League Club’s latest family-friendly restaurant. It got its name from the Club’s iconic volcano water feature which sits just outside the restaurant.
