Big change for little champions

For the second year in a row, Canterbury League Club has provided a $20,000 donation to The Footy Show’s ‘Big Change For Little Champions’ Telethon in support of Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.

Dr George Peponis OAM, Chairman of Canterbury League Club, was there on the night to present the large cheque to Starlight as well as rub shoulders with all the fantastic Captain Starlights and volunteers who made the night possible.

Attitude and energy key to hip hop success

A talented bunch of pocket rocket hip hop dancers are taking out dance championship titles left and right with their explosive high energy performances.

The Hellraizers, a junior dance crew between the ages of 9-10 years, have just won the World Supremacy Battlegrounds Sydney (Junior Division) as well as first place at the Australian Dance Crew Championships (Junior Division). They also represented Australia and went up against other junior dance crews from around the globe at the recent World Hip Hop International Championships in Las Vegas.

2014 Canterbury Staff Service Awards

Seventy long-serving staff members were acknowledged and thanked at the recent Canterbury League Club Staff Service Awards.

The awards recognised staff who have provided 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service to the Canterbury group.

The dinner and ceremony was held in the Paragon Room and MCs for the night were popular comedians, Tahir and Rob Shehadie.

Special mention goes towards Gabriel Saba, Darren Vetter, Jayne Swiderski, Mary McKenzie, Greg Swiderski, Helen Thompson and Susan Shaw for their 25 years of service to Canterbury.

Canterbury supporting the community

Canterbury League Club has donated over $1.2 million to more than 120 different organisations, schools and sporting groups in the period from September 2013 till August 2014.

Some of the charities and local organisations that Canterbury has assisted in the past year include the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Variety – The Children’s Charity, St Basil’s Nursing Home, Canterbury Hospital, Youth Off The Streets, Special Olympics Australia, Horizon Theatre Company and Koorana Child & Family Services.

Evolving for the future

Flame Pizza + Grill has upped the ante for meat lovers with their new 1.1kg tender prime rib steak called The Tomahawk.  

The new menu item joins the ranks of Flame’s other steaks offerings which often reads like a list of fine red wine. The steak list has been sourced from local Australian farmers in leading beef regions including Tasmania, North Western NSW and the Riverina.

The Tomahawk is served medium rare with a choice of two sides and is not for the faint-hearted – it is a serious steak for serious steak lovers.

“A lot of our members have been asking for a café-style breakfast option at the Club; the trend for eating out breakfast is also getting more and more popular,” said Dave Brace, CEO of Canterbury League Club.

Due to the increasing popularity of children’s shows and feedback from parents and grandparents, Canterbury has added more shows to their regular line up. For the first time, kids will have a choice of six different shows to come and enjoy during their September school holidays.
