Cultural celebration brings community together

Students and staff of Canterbury Boys High School (CBHS) recently enjoyed a day of food, entertainment and festivities at their annual Cantervale festival.

Held by the school, Cantervale celebrates the school’s cultural diversity that exists within their student population – 92 percent of their students come from a non-English speaking background.

Numerous food stalls were set up on the day serving up delicious offerings of Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic and Pacific Islander foods.

Come visit the Club to see the beautiful Christmas decorations and lights – the eleven metre tall Christmas tree and the seven metre tall reindeer will surely be a welcome backdrop for photographs especially at night. The Club will also be full of sparkly tinsel, bright lights, colourful garlands and wreaths and they would look perfect for that festive familyphoto.

Sixty-nine long service awards were given out at the recent Canterbury League Club Staff Service Awards.

These awards recognises Canterbury employees who have provided the Club with 5, 10, 15, 20, 35 or 40 years of service.

Three of the longest serving Canterbury employees recognised on the night were Christine Mitchell, Eva Silvestri and Bridget Burchell. These lovely ladies were presented with flowers, a gift and a 40 Year Award certificate. Another noteworthy mention goes to George Cocokios for providing 35 years.

Local school children in Papua New Guinea were recently treated to a visit from the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs as part of their ‘Bulldogs in the Community’ program.

Bulldogs representatives included recently retired winger Steve Turner, and NRL players Mitch Brown and Tim Browne. A number of up and coming stars like Lachlan Burr, Harlan Alaalotoa and Adam Elliott as well as a number of Canterbury and Bulldogs administrative staff also flew over for the week-long trip.

Playground brings joy to children with autism

All children love to play but for children with autism, a normal playground might be fraught with uncertainties.

McCallums Hill Public School is one school within the local area that doesn’t need to worry about that issue anymore – a $12,500 donation from Canterbury League Club has helped purchase a new playground for children in their Special Education Unit.

Belmore United FC to screen Greece vs Romania World Cup Qualifier live at Canterbury

Belmore United FC & Football Director, George Lazarou are excited to announce that it has organised, in conjunction with Ch33/FOS Group Australia, a live and exclusive broadcast of the World Cup play off between Greece & Romania.

Canterbury League Club will be the only venue in Sydney to screen both legs of this World Cup play off.

Both nations finished second in their respective qualifying groups. Greece will be hoping to qualify for its second successive World Cup appearance, while Romania will be seeking qualification for the first time since 1998.
